Meg wearing "Vintage
Grape" |
Founded in 1986 by Meg Staley and Jerry Gretzinger, the Staley/Gretzinger
company has become a distinctive brand with worldwide presence, carried coast-to-coast and
overseas by hundreds of stores.
Jerry and Meg have always had an eye for the offbeat. As a partner in
Soho Showroom, Meg helped launch the careers of then unknown designers like Todd Oldham
and Anna Sui. Jerry, with a background in archaeology, architecture, and accessories
design, brings a wide variety of aesthetic sensibilities to his designs.
Our dedicated and accomplished artisans handcraft all our
clothing in our New York City and Hudson Valley workshops.
Under Meg and Jerry's direction,
Staley/Gretzinger is a perennial clothing innovator. Their designs are lively and
unpredictable, yet their clothes emphasize comfort and wearability.

Staley/Gretzinger in The News
A Game of
Telephone
Shortly after the Oscars, Staley/Gretzinger's midwestern representative
called their New York City offices to pass along the rumor that Lynn Redgrave
had worn Staley/Gretziner to the Oscars. The owner of a store in Michigan
had told her that she saw Lynn Redgrave on television amongst the Oscar revelers
in an outfit from Staley/Gretziner's Spring 2001 line. Several phone calls
and web searches by Staley/Gretzinger's resourceful national sales manager, Amy
Spagnuolo, led her to Lynn Redgrave's website: www.redgrave.com
(what else?) On the site was an e-mail address for Ms. Redgrave and of course
Amy was compelled to write to her. She responded!! She purchased the outfit at a
store in Venice, CA and wore it on Oscar night to a big Film Foundation event at
the Beverly Hills Hotel and then, this is the ticklish part, for an appearance
on Politically Incorrect. Furthermore, she said she'd love to wear more of
Staley/Gretzinger. Stay tuned and keep your eyes You never know what you
might find the next time you're flipping through the pages of that magazine at
the dentist's office!

The third
Staley/Gretzinger Fashion Show/Luncheon at Northgate at Dockside
Restaurant on Saturday, March 31st raised $1,000 in proceeds to donate
to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Research Division.
Happily, the number of people attending the event has increased each
year and so has the donation to the Cancer Society. A floral
arrangement donated by Robert Millis of Cold Spring Gardens, 3 pairs of
Foxglove garden gloves donated by Harriet Zbikowski, and 2 photographs
donated by Mary Ann Glass were raffled raising further funds for the
Cancer Society.
Marilyn
Heberling and Kurt Lauer were commentators for the fun theatrical
fashion show, this year titled "SG Network Presents GLITZ:, which
was a takeoff on T.V. Entertainment Talk Shows. The scenes
interviewed the first voted off "Survivor", celebrities that
were hot gossip topics, a down and out Rock Bank, owners of Victoria's
Spa, a group of peiple that had face lifts together call the enlightened
and tightened, gossip editors of the show - all of course wearing spring
and summer clothing from the Staley/Gretzinger store. Alexandra
Gunn was featured as the new Fashion Designer ofthe season, wearing her
original design which she had designed through the Garrison Art Center
Mentor Program with Mentor Marilyn Heberling. The models were Kathy
Barnes, Clara Marullo, Linda Moore, Anita Shedcris, Kathy Scanlon and a
picture of Meg Staley, who was unable to attend, pinned on a mannequin.
A highlight of the show was when commentator Marilyn, in the Joan Rivers
style, interviewed members of the audience, asking "who were they
wearing?" Most of the audience proudly showed off their
vintage Staley/Gretzinger clothing, some bought recently, some going
back to Janet Farnam's dress purchased in 1985 or Sue Fitzgerald's 7
year old "In Crowd" shirt or Kasey Moss's 3 year old
"Autumn Woods" suit. The Staley/Gretzinger store will continue
this fun annual event as it is a great time for people to get together
for good company, have good food, good laughs for a good cause.
